New User on Report Builder 2.0

  • I'm new to this application and am struggling to find useful documentation on it. I suspect that it can do what I want, but I can't figure out how to do several what I would consider "easy" things, and I say that because Excel can do it. For example, does 2.0 have the ability to 'fit to page' rather than having data spill over to another page? Also, does it have the ability to print the column headers (much like 'rows to repeat at top') at the top of each page of a report? Thanks for any help anyone can offer....

  • I've run into various difficulties along those lines. I've saved at least two links:

    http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/577600/report-builder-3-0-repeat-header-columns-on-each-page-does-not-work#

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/ee29da49-5c8c-47f3-a905-c730dcbe9780

The second link seems to have some extended conversations about this. I saved the links for myself primarily to weakly defend my using the SQL server for pagination help on the client side 😉

I certainly have had some frustrations getting solid info on report builder and report server and where it stands issuewise, especially with report server's fairly involved changes between 2005 and 2008 but even on the client side I'm still unsure of what works and what doesn't.

  • Thanks for the reply. It's actually very helpful to find out that other people are struggling with this as well. On another forum, someone had cut and pasted the URL for the Microsoft 'help' on these things (which I had already discovered and tried and failed as these folks had) and it made me wonder what I was missing.
