New user needing advice about SQL server

  • Hi Guys

I'm very happy to join SQLservercentral and I'm willing to learn new things on here. I just wanted to ask you some few questions because i have been on the internet trying to make some research about SQL. I'm just a new beginner trying to learn SQL to be a DBA in future.

    My Question is

For a beginner like me which one do you think is suitable for me to begin with either Microsoft SQL server or Oracle because some said ORACLE is still old way and some said Microsoft has expand on that but is it Microsoft SQL server more demanding or ORACLE in today's technology??. Please explain to me

I just download Microsoft SQL server 2005 and do you guys have any idea where i can get some tutorials about SQL please??

I will be more than happy to get a response from you guys

    Thank you guys

  • First suggestion, don’t start with SQL Server 2005. Please download SQL Server 2008 R2 (or higher) EVAL edition and start practicing SQL. Download Adventure works Database from codeplex it will help you in understanding SQL Server tutorial or BOL examples.

Buy good books on SQL Server based on your interest on DBA or DEV work. Participate on forums like SSC.

    Best of Luck!

  • Thank you very much for your reply.
