New server Registration

  • newbie question.

I'm having a trouble trying to connect with Enterprise manager to a remote SQL server 2000, I con connect to the default instance using IP address (ths because SQL is in another subnet)but when I try to connect to IP_Address/Instance_name I've got back an error, that's works locally. Can you help me?

    Thanks in adv.

  • Not 100% sure, but I think the port number won't be 1433. Have a look on the server to see what it's using.

  • If you're using SQL7 EM, you'd have to set an alias I think. Also your workstations need ADO 2.6 to work with instances without using an alias.

  • I think MDAC 2.5 will work as well.
