Hi everyone,
I've been using Reporting Services' "Report Manager" for a few years now, and have had no issues adding, or deleting Role Assignments for reports or folders. All of my users have been added in the following format: domain\username (i.e. aaa\jsmith)
Recently, we switched domains (let's say from 'aaa' to 'bbb'). I think this may have something to do with my issue. We stopped using the 'aaa' domain, but everybody is still listed in the report manager under the 'aaa' domain.
Now, when I try to add a new Role Assignment, using either the old or the new domain (i.e. bbb\rjohnson), the error message returned is from one of the other users in the list with the old domain
i.e. The user or group name 'aaa\jsmith' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)
Ideally I would switch all of the users to the new domain, but I cannot seem to delete the existing users with the old domain or add new users with the new domain as long as a user with the old domain exists in the list. My current users, although listed under the old domain, can still access their reports without issue... but I do eventually need to manage the groups and users.
Does it sound like the domain switch could be the issue?
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thank you very much in advance,

I never got a response from anybody... but I finally figured out how to fix this.
1) First, make a copy of my security settings
2) Then delete ALL of the users with the old domain
3) Then, using the copy of my security settings as a reference, manually rebuild all of the users.
Luckily I don't have too many users, so the manual process was not a problem. If anybody has a better solution, I'd still be curious to know. Otherwise, I'm just glad I have a way to fix this if it ever comes up again.

This isn't exactly a better way to handle the problem you encountered, but may be a better way to manage security so it is less of an issue. Use Domain Groups and have users added to the appropriate groups instead of individual users. SOmething like Domain\AccountingReports, Domain\SalesReports. Then when a domain change is made the Network Admins need to recreate all the groups and you make one change.
