  • Steve - suprised at you for letting us off so easy at the end of the week - or was this a TGIF (Thank God Its Friday) to all of us here on SSC ?

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand (the world). There is no such thing as a dumb question. ― Carl Sagan

  • This was mentioned at my SQL training session two weeks ago...:-D

  • Note that the VIA protocol is deprecated by Microsoft, and will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server.

It is however supported in SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2

It's the correct answer. Deprecated means it is going away in a future release. It's still supported but not recommended for any new work.

  • Nice question. I'm surprised there were votes for TCP/IP. Named Pipes, I can sympathize with that (for some reason I've never gotten along with that protocol).
