Hi,
I've a Windows 7 Server 64-bit machine that HAD 2K8 installed. I had to uninstall it to get another application with Express 2008 up. The uninstall appeared flawless - I removed each item in my add/remove list related to 2k8.
Onto installing my Express app. After a few clicks, it started throwing the "SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: MSIGetProductInfo failed to retrieve ProductVersion for pacakge with Product Code = '{B5153233-9AEE-4CD4-9D2C-4FAAC870DBE2}'. Error Code: 1605.
Long story short, I've gone through the registry and removed this guid as well as the reverse of the first 8 characters - 3323515B.
Each time that I kick off the setup, it returns the same error citing a different Product Code. I've done this about 20 times now over the course of a few days and can't take this anymore.
I've procmon'd the installer to see what XML config file it may be trying to read these keys from - it seems either embedded in the MSI or somehow managed in the registry. Can't figure this out.
I can't wipe this server out. How can I get a list to see all of the codes that it has to check?
2k8 has got to be one of the most complicated uninstallations on earth.
Update:
Holy poop. I think I finally got all of them. Somewhere between 15 and 20 product codes apparently does the trick.
