MSDTC is tied to Component Services. Check the Event Viewer Logs right after trying to start and see if any more details messages are available. Also, what is the full text of the MSDTC error message?

I think this is the problem or at least the possible fix.
Drill thru Control Panel and Administrative Tools, there open Componenet Services MMC.
When open you should see in the left frame a FOlder labeled Computers and a child below that My Computer.
Right click My COmputer and choose properties.
On the Properties dialog choose the MSDTC tab.
In the center you will see a section labeled "Log Information"
Veify the Location path is valid. If not either create the folder structure defined in the path or set a new path and when asked (if the directories do not exist) let it create the directories.
Close properties and try to start MSDTC now.

Can not start mmc Component Services.
Program aborts with message in Application Log (eventlog): .. "Event ID 4377 in source can not be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message dll files to display the message.."
Also, when i type mmc in the run box, trying to add component services, and activating it,
it says: DTC WAS INSTALLED BY SQL SERVER.
PLEASE REINSTALL !

You shouldn't have to start Component Services to get to properties. When you open the Coponent Services in the Admin Tools of Control Panel if all you see if Computers with nothing below it right click and do refresh.
The default path is usually C:\WINNT\System32\DTCLog.

Got the solution:
i run dtcsetup.exe in the .../system32 folder.
Windows 2k server reinstalled dtc... i then
i started msdtc in the service manager (green icon (running) appears).. msdtc started..
Any way, thanks a lot oh yeah there is
a folderc called /system32/dtclog/ with msdtclog, but this file contains information
only read, in other words... its unreadable.
bye
