Hi,
I'm planning on moving a LUN containing all the DB's on a MS SQL server 2012 cluster to a new LUN. What's the best way to move the DB's.
Here's my plan:
1) Shutdown applications that access DB's
2) detach all the DB's
3) copy the mdf and ldf files over
4) stop the SQL role on the cluster
5) stop cluster service (quorum and data drive will be offline)
6) remove existing iSCSI targets
7) connect to new iSCSI target where mdf and ldf data were copied to
7) start cluster services
8) start SQL role
9) attach databases
10) test
What about system DB's? Do I move them too?
TIA

What is stored on the LUN you are removing? If the system DBs are on that LUN then yes they will need moving too. If the SQL Binaries are on the LUN again they will need moving.

get your storage admins to replicate\mirror the LUNs, then when youre rerady swap them over, you'll need an outage on the cluster role to perform this

Thanks for the info...
We are upgrading our storage so I need to move the LUN that the SQL server is connected to.
My storage guy is going to snap mirror the LUN once I detach the databases. Do I still need to detach the databases if I stop the SQL role on the cluster?
The new LUN will be an exact mirror of the old LUN, can I just stop the SQL services.... detach the old iSCSI devices, attach new iSCSI devices and then start the SQL services again?
TIA
Tony
