Move from Production to Development DBA - any reading suggestions?

  • I was wondering if there are any suggestions of reading materials when moving from a Production DBA to a Development DBA.

I recently accepted a Developement DBA position and know my skill set needs some broadening.

Areas I already see I will need improvement on are:

    1) coding T-SQL for performance

    2) advanced SQL queries

    3) performance tuning

If there are other topics you can think of, please let me know.

Can anyone suggest any reading materials that might help this transition along?

    Thank You

  • The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL by Ken Henderson is an excellent TSQL development reference.

Joe Celko's SQL for Smarties is where I learned many advanced SQL techniques. It took a while to understand Celko's writing style, but the results were well worth the effort.

  • Thank You.  I actually have the Guru book, but at the time I purchased it, it was way over my head.  I will go look through it again, it will probably make a lot more sense now.   Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it.
