Monitoring SQL 2000 help

  • I would like to know if there is any tool or code that can notify SQL

DBA. I am looking for in particular as mentioned below.

a> If Server is rebooted & due to any reason if SQL Server Services

didn't came up or not started, then SQL DBA should receive PAGE/EMAIL

    about this problem/error

b> Due to any reason SQL Server Services were stopped or stopped

working, SQL DBA should get notify thru PAGE/EMAIL.

Currently we don't want to go for any 3rd party tool. I am looking for

something that can answer my above to requirements. Any help will be

appreciated & thanking you in advance.

  • We currently use NetIQ to monitor all these occurences.  It will look at the application and system logs and send an email to whoever needs to be notified.  You tell it what events you want to monitor.  It works great.  We also use it to notify us if the drive space is low or if certain jobs failed.  If you set up your notification on jobs to write to the app log it makes it easy.
