MOM False Alarms on Sql Server

  • I have been false alerts from MOM for a while. The alerts generally look like this:

    Severity: Critical Error

    Status: New

    Source: MSSQL$WVS

Name: The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure.

Description: Unable to expand message 17055 [-1073724769] 18265 Log backed up: Database: orderentry, creation date(time): 2006/08/18(14:00:49), first LSN: 68178:1162:1, last LSN: 68178:10001:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=VIRTUAL_DEVICE: {'CvSQL_B40_J755797_orderentry'})

    The other characteristics are:

*it is always tied to a backup

*it'll happen for a couple backups in a row then stop

*the output on the NAME line will change

*it happens on multiple servers to different databases

Google and newsgroup seach show other folks with the same problem but no solutions. The MS knowledge base had this article but I don't think it is very promising.

Anyone else having this problem or know a solution?
