Merge Replication

  • Hi all, heres my scenario

I have two servers A and B in different locations - LocA and LocB respectively. Both servers synchronizes their SQL databases continuously.

We have a survey team that uses laptops(also setup as subscribers) in remote sites and synchronises with server A at the end of the day when they connect back to the server. We want to be able to synchronise these laptops with server B incase server A crashes.

What will be the best configuration to achieve this and what are any foreseen problems? Anybody tried alternate publishers before?

  • Alternative synchronization partners can be used in merge replication. Caveates: all computers must be using SQL 2000 and the subscriptions must be global (AFAIR). If you are using named Subscriptions, you must enable the Subscriber at the alternate synchronization partner and create a subscription identical to the original subscription at the alternate synchronization partner - do a search in BOL for 'alternative synchronization partners'.
