Memory Issue - w3wp.exe process

  • We've just installed RS on our UAT IIS server and were about to install our production server when we noticed the following issue. (I've searched the forum and read the other postings, but I don't believe this is the same issue).

Periodically, the browser 'hangs' when navigating around the default RS site. We are not running hefty reports. The w3wp.exe process is using the vast majority of system memory and is running perilously close to a system memory exception. It seems to me (as a non-techie RS n00b that memory is not being freed up following use).

Any suggestions of where to look next?

It's not a big box, but this shouldn't be occurring with 1-2 users, and not running any reports.

    TIA.

  • Well, we weren't able to hang around, so we have installed the following Hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916984), which seems to be working so far. We will also be upgrading the memory on this server to improve performance.

If we have any more experiences with this issue, I'll post them here.

  • Hi

We have had problem with same w3wp.exe but this was due to an asp site (no asp.net, just asp !)

We didn't have this issue concerning report server

    Kind regards

  • Hi all:

I think this is where the problem is. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909804

We also have 16GB memory on the server where reporting service running, but still have the memory issue.

    Any one has suggestion?

    Thanks
