  I have a sql server cluster (active passive) with 48 gig of memory, I have 44 set aside for sql server. Running 3rd party OLTP for years, all of a suddent today proc cache getting killed. Rebuild some indexes and restarted service. Target server is 41 gig but total is shwoing 21 gig. Nothing has changed on this box, just happended today

  What do you mean by getting killed?

  Have you benchmarked? Any counters changed? Possible workload changes?

  21GB might take some time to run up to 44GB. Can you run some larger queries or a sample workload to prime it?
