Memory: Available Bytes counter

  • Hi all - I just had a query about this counter. My system monitor is basically telling me that I have an average of 4366451469 throughout the day. If this unit is bytes then this is about 4.3Gb of free memory, does this sound correct?

    The reason I ask is that everything I read says if it falls below 5MB then look at memory pressure so I just want to make sure my calculations are correct as this seems to be miles away from any kind of memory problems.

  • I've seen 2%, 5% and as much as 10% as the recommended low for this counter.

    So if 4GB is well beyond 10% free, then you have adequate memory for your server. This however, should not be the only counter to use when checking for memory pressure. There are some good articles covering the topic of PerfCounters to monitor. Here is one:
