Most of our client workstations and servers have MDAC 2.8 SP1 installed ("2.81.1117.6" from May 2005). But a few others have a later verison (2.82.1830.0)
I checked the Microsoft Website and SP1 is the latest. So where does the "1830" verison come from? (Sql 2005?, a Windows SP?). It is available as a download.?
TIA,
Bill

It is most likely a hotfix that fixes a particular problem. Some hotfixes are only available via Microsoft's PSS. Here's a link to MDAC hotfixes that are publically available. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839801/
You could be correct that this is a hotfix that only applies to SQL Server 2005 and therefore is 'built' into that installation disk.
