MCITP Database Administrator SQL Server 2008

  • Hi,

I have MCDBA 2000 certification and want to upgrade to MCITP 2008. Can't upgrade to MCTIP 2005, because exam 70-431 has just been retired. So, it seems the only option is to take two exams:

70-432 TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance exam

70-450 PRO: Designing, Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Administrative Solution Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 exam

    Is that all?

It looks a bit suspicious, that certification from the scratch only requiers two exams. MCDBA used to require four, I think.

    Thanks.

  • You would be correct in your assumptions. The MCTS is a pre-req for the MCITP and they have separated administration and development.

    Administrative track-

70-432 MCTS: SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance

    70-450 MCITP: Database Administrator 2008

    Development track-

70-433 MCTS: SQL Server 2008, Database Development

    70-451 MCITP: Database Developer 2008

    70-451 MCITP: Database Developer 2008

And all four of those are pre-reqs for the Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) for SQL Server 2008.

The only other two exams that might be interesting, for SQL Server DBAs, are the two Business Intelligence certifications.

70-448 MCTS: SQL Server 2008, Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance

70-452 MCITP: Business Intelligence Developer 2008

Sorry, I did not quite understand. Is this correct, that I need only two exams or is this correct, I need more? The exam numbers look the same for MCTS.

  • There are 2 SQL 2008 MCITP certifications. Each one requires 2 exams.

    MCITP SQL 2008 Database Administrator.

This requires that you have already written 70-432 MCTS: SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance

and then you must write 70-450

    MCITP SQL 2008 Database Developer

This requires that you have already written 70-433 MCTS: SQL Server 2008, Database Development

and then you must write 70-451 MCITP: Database Developer 2008
