MBR & GPT Disks

  • Hi Experts,

Need to add a new 3TB disk to SQL Server cluster which is using mount points. All other disks are MBR and MBR won’t support more than 2TB. Is it ok to use GPT and MBR together on a cluster which is using Mount Points?

Will it cause any issues during failover or during validation?

    Please advise.

  • Master Boot Record (MBR) disks use the popular BIOS partition table. GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks use Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). One benefit of GPT disks is that you can have extra than four partitions on each disk. GPT is additionally required for disks larger than two terabytes (TB).

  • Thanks Lindsay,

Can you help me understand the impact of the same in a cluster?
