SQL server has only the TCP/IP protocol enabled
Client machine only has Management Studio Express installed. When attempting a connection to the SQL Server, the connection cannot be made and errors with (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error:40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
In attempts to specify the Network Protocol TCP/IP to use in Management Studio Express, the Connection Properties tab > Network Section > if you click on the Network protocol drop down, it only has . How can I add or make Management Studio Express use TCP/IP?
NOTE: I have other installations that have the full SQL Server Express installation. If you go into SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Native Client Configuration > Client Protocols, enabling or disabling protocols here controls what appears in the drop down list in Management Studio Express. But this is installations with all the bells and whistles. My problem is when only Management Studio Express is the only product installed because SQL Server Configuration Manager is not there to use.
