Hello,
I recently took a new job. I am a asp programmer who dabbles with databases and hardware.
We are getting ready to install a new browers based off the shelf project management system.
Prior to my arrival 2 dell power edge 2650, 1 processor, and 5 148GB drives each were purchased.
The current thinking is to run IIS and SQL server on each machine, on the same drive, from what I have read is not the best situation. The idea is to somehow have SQL server data mirrored on each machine, then if we have a problem we can just redirect to the other machine.
I am looking for some ideas on how we can configure this to have data redundancy / failover capablity and maximize performace.
I think at the top of the list is a 3rd smaller server to run IIS. That may be out of the question.
Any ideas on how to set up the hardware and where to run IIS and SQL and still maintain redundancy / failover would be greatly appreciated!!!
If we go forward with the current plan which Windows / SQL server tools will help us mirror the two machines.

The only way to have fail-over capability would be to build a cluster with either microsoft or veritas clustering. However, there are many other ways to have redundancy in SQL Server. This link will give you a good idea of what is possible.

As far as IIS is concerned I don't know what you could do for redundancy there.
