Maintenance Plan error

  • Hello all,

I have a Windows Server 2003 sp2 Enterprise Edition running SQL Server 2005.

I administer it from my local machine across the network using SQL Server Management Studio.

I have a number of maintenance plans which run and complete fine, but if I try to view their properties I receive the following error:

    Cannot show requested dialog.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt)

Attempt to retrieve data for object failed for Server 'MyServer'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

    unknown property CategoryID (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)

I have searched for a solution with no luck.

    I hope someone can help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Did you refresh the list of jobs in SSMS? Try if restarting SSMS will solve the issue.

Are you enable to view the properties through a Remote Desktop (or physically) on the server?

  • I had a similar issue in the past, and it was caused by my SSMS not being at the same version of the server. I ran the SP2 install on my local machine and it fixed the error.
