Thanks, everyone! So it's actually not advisable to use the Maintenance Plans? I'll look into the options mentioned.
I think my problem is probably with the iffy nature of the maintenance plan. I can go to the folder and delete the files without any problems. The jobs just don't work consistently as they should be.
