Recently uncovered a problem on a failover where our static IP changed (doesn't make sense). I've come across a TCPPORT registry key, but I don't believe setting that stops SQL from changing the value. What I am looking for is a key to possibly lock that value in so that no program can alter it. Kind of a MaintainPort key or something to that effect. Any ideas?

Not likely to be anyway to do this except permissions. Is this a big problem?

It was a big problem yesterday when it failed. Just trying to prevent it from becoming a big problem again. We're not even sure how a static port could be changed, but though maybe since there was a key to set the port there may be a key to lock it.

Did the IP or the port change? Was it a clustered instance?

Did anyone change it using the Server Network Utility?
