Hi,
I am having some problems with SQL 2005 SP3 backups on Windows 2003 64bit
Running from the SQL Studio. I just run a full DB then after about 15 minutes it says completed.
I go to check the media content on the tape and it times out and then locks the
Tandberg LTO 4 drive so I can’t eject the tape.
These are the errors in the SQL server log.
BackupTapeFile::UnloadTape: PrepareTape(UNLOCK) failure on backup device '\\.\tape0'. Operating system error 21(error not found).
Message Error: 18210, Severity: 16, State: 1.
In that order.
I have tried it with a LTO 3 tape drive and this works fine on all backups.
This will be my second LTO 4 drive that has failed with the same error.
Both the LTO 4 drives backup fine using NT Backup.
Cheers

Not that this is going to help you - but I don't know of anyone who backs up directly to tape from SQL Server. The generally accepted method is to backup to a file - then use NT Backup to backup the file to tape.
Not only does that give you your offsite copy, you get an auxiliary copy online that is available to be used right away if needed.
