Junk/SPAM Posts Overwhelming

  • Melanie.Townsend (10/15/2014)

Just to reiterate what Steve said in his post over on The Thread yesterday, we've implemented ASKIMET for posts. This took effect yesterday and shouldn't slow things down, but we are evaluating and discarding SPAM posts. Let us know if things affect you.

    Thanks,

    Melanie

Is my inability to post a reply on a thread I am already a participant in related to this new measure at all?

  • Hi MM,

Afraid so, looked it up and that post was marked as spam, still some growing pains and I'm sorry about that.

I've set it to Not Spam, which unfortunately won't reinstate it, but should make it more likely to get through if you try posting it again.

Still a few kinks to work out I'm afraid :/

    Melanie

  • Thanks Melanie,

No, I still can't reply on that thread.

Is this in any way related to how long it is taking to edit/add posts as well or is that a separate issue?

  • It might be related. We have a kind of rough draft of the spam-catching mechanism in place now, it's going to get some more work in the next week or two to smooth out some of these issues.

  • Hi Melanie,

Clearly, the good efforts of the team just aren't working. Last weekend, the "Posts Added Today" link was so flooded with spam, all of the people who needed help were actually knocked off the link.

Today starts the long Thanksgiving weekend and the spammers have already started.

If you were to setup a couple of us old timers so that when we reported spam with the right key words the system would take automated action to delete the posts of the spammer, we'd be happy to help you keep things clear. I can't speak for anyone else but I wouldn't report anything using the magic words unless it was totally obvious spam as it has been.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
