Can you tell me how to check this lock ?

  • Log onto the server. Right-Click My Computer and go to Manage. Many file locks can be found under Shared Folders -> Shares or Shared FOlders -> Open Files. Sometimes, though, a file attribute locks it to read only (or share perms do), so check the file properties.

And if SQL server (or one of its accounts) has the file locked open, the only way to resolve the issue, that I know if, is to take the service offline or restart the box. I've actually had to do that in the past.

You might want to talk to your server admin before implementing any of these solutions, though, just to see if they have a tool that can read locks better than what I've given you or if they have a way of breaking a lock without leaving it on the file.
