Hi
I have had no luck installing sql server 2012 express on to a windows home machine. When I go through the installation process it fails to install the database engine. It gives an error of "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation." I am not sure what to do as i can't install 2014 or 2016 on the machine has it fails the system requirements.

Anyone experienced this?

yes it passed all pre installation checks except firewall which had a warning.
I got the sql server 2012 from a microsoft download page it was sql server 2012 64 bit with service pack 1
i know I said in my original post that I couldn't install 2014 and 2016 due to system requirements. Sometimes it would pop up with this message and then other times it didn't. So I tried installing 2014 as well but got an error at same point of the install as 2012.

The user I am running the install with is a local administrator and I am running the setup as "run as administator".
Could it possibly have something to do with the default user selected in the install for running the database engine service?
