Installing SQL 2005 on Windows Server 2003 R2 EE x64

  • Hello all,

I am a new DBA and have been trying to install a two node active/passive failover cluster on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 with SP2. The only other patch I have applied is the one listed in 934016 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934016/) because I needed it to get the MS DTC working.

After setting up the windows cluster, the MS white papers I have read instruct me to cluster MS DTC (hence the patch, which has not been through regression testing). Everything looks fine after getting MSDTC set up, except that when I test the cluster by restarting the active server (node1), the cluster service won't start on it. If I shut down node2, then the service will start on node1 and it will take over the resources, but then the service won't start on node2.

When I try to start the cluster service, I get 'Error 1076: The process terminated unexpectedly'

with detailed error code -2147023829 (8007042b).

The second time I try to start the service I get 'Error 1726:Remote Procedure Call failed' with detailed error message -2147023170 (800706be)

I have verified that the account the service is running under is in the Administrator's group and has the appropriate local rights.

If anyone has any suggestions, i would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

  • I forgot to mention: these are HP blade servers without a firewall.

The 'Cluster Name' resource has both the 'DNS Registration must succeed' and 'Enable Kerberos Authentication' checkboxes unchecked.

The 'Cluster IP Address' resource has the 'Enable NetBIOS for this Address' checked.

    Thanks again!
