Installing SQL 2005 Developer Edition x64 and SP1 - Integration Services

  • I have two new Dell Servers with dual quad-core x64 processors, 8 GB RAM, 378GB or 576 GB HDD space and both are running MS Windows 2003 R2 EE.

One server 1, I am trying to install only SQL Server 2005 and Integration Services.  I can successfully install DE, and everything starts up fine.  As soon as I apply SP 1, Integration Services fails to start with the error message: The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion.  I check the event logs, and can find no error messages except this.

On server 2, I have successfully installed SQL Server 2005 and SP 1.  The differences: on server 2 I have also installed SSAS and Reporting Services.

I have tried removing just SSIS from server one and reinstalling it.  Again, before applying SP 1, everything works but as soon as I apply SP 1, fails.  I have even tried uninstalling all of SQL Server 2005 and reinstalling - nothing.

    Any help would be welcome.

  • I have found the problem and have corrected it.  Turns out SSIS was trying to phone home due to changes in the Cyrpto providers (or something to that effect) and couldn't as server one couldn't see the Internet.

I found a hotfix that corrected my problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919224/ and applied it before finding the other kb article that explained the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918644

  • I feel a disturbance in the Force, like the sound of 16 64-bit cores suddenly screaming for more RAM.
