Installing SQL 2005 as part of a Server Image

  • I am extremely new to this and I am unsure if this is even possible. One of our projects requires the build of 10 SQL Servers in a 2 node cluster (20 total servers). I am wondering if it is possible to build a generic SQL version as part of a Windows 2003 Server installation and then script the particulars for each server.

I wish to have a single image that I can put on the twenty servers and then script the individual options on each server.

    1. Is this possible?

    2. If it is possible can you point me to an information where I can learn how this is done.

    Regards,

    David

  • It is possible.

You have to create package and than use Altiris to deploy the same on the server. If licencing of Altiris is the problem you can run the package on each machine seperately to install the SQL Server also you can include Service Pack along with it. Hence in one shot all the work can be done.

    Hope this will help.

  • Your answer does indeed help, unfortunately going through all the Altiris products is a tad confusing. Would you be referring to the Altiris Deployment centre? The reason I am asking is that I have been looking at Acronis True Image Server Enterprise. Mainly because it does the deployment options I wanted (I'm not yet sure of the SQL part) as well as doing Virtual to Physical.

Thank you again for your help.

    Cheers,

    David
