Installing SP3/SP4 fails for SQL server 2005

    Service pack 3 fails for SQL server 2005. It gives the below error in bootstrap log.

    11/18/2011 02:59:19.964 MSP returned 1642: The installer cannot install the upgrade patch because the program being upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch updates a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

    Anyone of you has faced similar issue before?

    Also you have posted a 2005 question in the 2008 area.

    You might get better help if you ask in the SQL 2005 area.

    Have you looked through the log file to see if it gives more detailed information?
