I'm trying to install 2008 R2. It installs the support files then stops. I never see the Feature Selection box and recieve no error. I've uninstalled any previous instances of SQL Server and VS. This is on Win XP Pro 32 bit. All I need on the client tools.
Any ideas?
Thanks

IIRC, RC versions have an expiration date. Since SQL Server 2008 has been out for about 2 years, what you probably need to do is either install the Express edition (free) or the Developers edition (about $50).

I believe Lynn has hit on the issue. All versions prior to RTM usually only run for a limited time.

I found the problem for future reference. The process failed upon attempting to install MSXML6. I found the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, which has been removed from the MS website. Googling will find a copy. I used it to remove the MSXML6 installer and MS SQL install completed.

The question we all are raising is whether this is RC2 or R2.
If this is R2 and you mistyped then no problem.
If you are really installing RC2 (Release Candidate 2) and this is production, then you need to uninstall it and get R2. An RC version is not only "time bombed", but it will be missing some critical features, some features will be incomplete, there may some features in the RC that did not make it to the RTM (Released To Manufacturing) version, and some features may exist in a completely different form.
Microsoft Update does not support RC versions, and service packs will not work with them either.
Just a precaution to save you some trouble with an RC version.

It's the R2 version. Thanks for pointing it out.
