The answer to your Question "What port does <b>SQL Server</b> 2000 use when installed?" Is incorrect. It states 1434 as the right answer. Actually, the listening service uses 1434. <b>SQL Server</b> uses 1433 (default).

The catch there is the UDP port. It actually listens on TCP/IP port 1433 and UDP port 1434. See books online by searching for : "Controlling Net-Libraries and Communications Addresses"

1433 is TCP port and 1434 is the UDP port SQL Server uses. The answer is correct.
