Hi,
We have 3 SSRS report servers in our estate, one for DEV, one for UAT and one for PROD.Both DEV and UAT run developer edition of SQL and PROD runs BI edition.
The upgrades of DEV and UAT went fine, standard in place upgrade.
What I'm not sure about is what will happen to PROD? BI edition doesn't exist anymore. I'm happy for it to run as standard. I don't want it to be enterprise however.
So my question is, if I use the SQL 2016 Standard edition installation media will it be fine upgrading a BI edition of 2012 to Standard 2016 in place? Or do I need to build a whole new machine and not do the upgrade in place but side by side?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

So I tried it out in a test environment.
Its not supported by Microsoft, the installer checks it all and then errors and says it is unable to continue.
I therefore had to uninstall SQL 2012 and install SQL 2016 standard edition and restore the ReportServer database and keys.
This worked for me.
Hope this helps someone else in the future
