Importing dtsx package from SQL 2005 to SQL 2000

  • Is it possible to import dtsx package from SQL 2005 to SQL 2000?If yes, how?

  • Any suggestion will be appreciated.

  • try exporting the package from SQL 2005 using Management studio, and import the package into SQL 2008 using Management studio(2K8)

  • You want to move the DTS back to 2000 ? If you open the package in 2005, and choose "save as" and select the 2000 server, maybe that will work ? I did a quick test on my servers and "save as" to a 2000 server seemed to work.

I know there are migration tools to go from 2000 to 2005 (3rd party & native). Perhaps they would work the other direction too for single or multiple packages. I haven't tried going backwards, so there may be compatibility issues that prevent this.

  • You cannot transfer a SSIS package from SQL 2005 or above to SQL 2000 DTS. SSIS and DTS are two separate products.

You can install SSIS on a SQL Server 2000 box and run SSIS against SQL Server 2000.
