heya
first of all, i am not from england or america, sorry for my bad english.
i buyed SQL 2000 and the Service Pack 4.
i was able to install 2000 without any problems, but when i tried to install SP4 i get a fatal error. first of all there comes the screen: Microsoft SQl 2000 Service Pack 4. after that you have to click 5 times 'yes' or 'agree'. then comes a box 'validating user'. after that you have to mark that yur pc have to install SP4 and in the next step you are asked about error reports. after that there comes a box 'please wait until pc gathers information' or something like that. you have to click one time 'next' again and then comes the main installation with MDAC and so on.
AND THERE I GET THE ERROR!!
at 19%: The Specified File cannot be opened as write. ensure the file is not in use and restart setup.
file: C:\Programme\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$(my username)\Install\instmsdb.sql
it is not in use and it exist. i downloaded it again but there comes the same error. can someone tell me why. i payed a lot of money for that program

What's in the file? The last lines often give a clue about what might be wrong.
One thing with SPs, be sure no application or user is trying to connect. There are places where the program starts SQL in single user mode. If another application or tool connects, the install fails.
Also, be sure you reboot and I'd rename that file before starting the installation again.
