hp poly serve administration for sql server 2005

  • Any one have an idea of HP Poly Serve virtualization environment handling numerous Sql Server 2005 instances.

  • We have many PolyServe Matrix clusters of up to four physical nodes, each having up to eight SQL Server 2005 Enterprise x64 instances with databases up to 20TB each.

We're phasing it out as we migrate all those databases to SQL Server 2008 on Windows 2008 clusters.

  • Hi,

Is there any specific benefits you will get by migrating it to windows 2008 clusters.

  • PolyServe has reached end-of-life. It beat our experiences with Windows 2003 clustering (such failovers not working or taking too long), but Windows 2008 clustering is an entirely different animal, and it meets our needs without the expense of PolyServe licenses.

  • We have a 6 node Polyserve cluster, hosting approximately 30 instances.

The product is very reliable and failover times are impressive. We have found that it can be particularly troublesome when you do have an issue, which are fortunately far and few between.

It has certainly fulfilled our requirements for performance etc.

We are now looking at migrating away from Polyserve due to the cost and looking at Microsoft clusters.
