Good approach, but please clarify "Online index rebuilds, advanced compression, Always On — none of these work on Developer Edition." vs. "SQL Server Developer Edition is free and delivers full feature parity with Enterprise Edition."

If you're running on ec2 you can also take advantage of the optimized CPU feature. This gives you the opportunity to right-size your CPU and reduce costs without reducing your memory footprint.

Exactly, AWS now turnd OFF SMT when using PRD SQL Server on RDS by default on newer instance types, but it is ON by default with EC2. You should disable it and it'll cut your per core Sql Server license cost nearly in half.

AWS isn't cheap. We should all be spending more on it. After all, Jeff Bezos has a rocket to fund, and apparently getting to space isn't cheap either. ??
