How to Load Test a Database by Simulating Multiple Connections

  • I'm busy redesigning one of our applications' database and I would like to perform stress testing. I've just been generating data in the database, running several of our queries and then analysing subtree costs and I/O and CPU usage. I would like to do a more intensive test, though, that simulates multiple connections to that database and really hammers it.

Yes, Google knows how - and I'm currently reading what Google has to say - but what methods have you used to do this and what were your experiences with them? Free tools are always appreciated, and open source tools will earn you extra geek points 😀

The tests are going to be done on my dev box. Am I correct in thinking that the better I can get the database to perform on this the better it will perform on "proper" server hardware?

    Thanks

  • Did I post this in the wrong section or do people not have experience to share in this regard?

  • Thats a good question, Anybody that can throw some light on this !!??
