How to connect to simply accounting via connection manager and Mysql

  • I am trying to establish a connection to Simply accounting data from SQL 2005 so I can keep data syncronized with my application. I cannot figure out a way to make this connection? I am running 2 sets of books on the accounting system and when I connect to them using msaccess through an ODBC driver set to a particular port I often get the wrong file. Using visual studio 2005 I can make a reliable connection through ODBC to the correct files every time but when I try to build a query with that connection in VS I get a error from the MYsql driver syaing that the query syntax is wrong?

Simply accounting uses this connection manager that controls the connections to MySql and it goes dead when the accounting application is shut down but I installed a 3rd party app that keeps the connection alive and assigns ports to each file. I am running everything on the same server and the accounting files are in the same folder.

    Any advice would be wonderful!

  • You are working on or have accomplished the very thing I am looking to do. I wonder if you had any success with your challenge? I am looking to use data from one database to look up information in the simply databases and then generate reports. We have about 50 accounts to manage, so it will be good if this could work. Do you have any suggestions about how I should go about accomplishing this task?

    Regards

  • How do you connect to the simply database? what is the user id and password. it did not ask when i install Simply Accounting. I think it is default. Can you please forward me the user id and password if it is default? thanks.

  • The username and password is one the you have set up in your users list in simply. You should use the sysadmin user account for this

  • I found the solution... I gave up on Simply because the mysql database and the connection manager is too much trouble and not reliable to connect to. I switched to Quickbooks Pro and found a great integrated application that does all I need. QB had many 3rd party apps that integrate nicely. This saved me huge time and expese!
