How Much AI Code Would You Use?

  • I had an interesting conversation with our CEO about AI, the art of the possible and probable, where the boundaries are etc.

We discussed chat bots and I said that if you are going to implement a chat bot you had better do it well or doing it badly would do more harm than good.  He also pointed out that most people's exposure to AI comes through Chatbots when really a Chatbot is just an interface to some process.  If you get your process right then a Chatbot becomes just one of many possible interfaces to your AI enhanced process.

I am seeing a lot of real world examples of AI being used.  Variable pricing models, mechanical failure prediction models, image recognition, collating information spread across multiple sources.  ChatGPT is just one manifestation of the many faces of AI.

  • At work it's kind of a mixed bag. We don't have ChatGPT or anything like that, because it costs money, and they don't want to spend any money. At least not on that. But some people have Microsoft Copilot for various MS Office applications.

At home I use GitHub Copilot and love it. The additional suggestions are great. Not always useful as sometimes I'll be developing using one pattern and GH Copilot will want to do a different pattern which doesn't match the rest of what I've done, but for the most part it is useful.
