Hardwware Requirement for Sql Server Database

    Our Firm is using a Inventory Software with SQL Server 2008 as a Backend and .net Based Windows Application.
    Networking is based on Workgroup concept with One Database Server connected to Other 25 systems.
    right now the Software runs a bit slow and the software developer ask us to upgrade the hardware system and sql server.
    How can i test the Sql Load and the hardware requirement for that specific load.

    One option on 2008 is to use a Reply Trace. It does have some requirements and takes a bit to get working correctly so research it if you go down that direction. Here are a couple of links to get you started:

    There are a lot of third party products that also do similar testing. You may also want to just do some general stress testing. Adam Mechanic developed a free tool, SQLQueryStress quite awhile back but it's still fairy popular. In case you want to check that tool, it's up on GitHub:
