Generate a new snapshot option is greyed out

  • We have a SQL 2005 Publication, and a SQL 2012 Subscription.

The publication, subscription, and agents are all running properly. No errors. All of the accounts used to run this are sysadmins.

The publisher is on one domain, and subscriber is on another.

When we attempt to reinitialize a subscription, we pick "use a new shapshot".

This is where we are baffled. The option to "Generate a new snapshot now" is greyed out.

    Anyone got any ideas?

We are making an educated guess that there is some sort of permission issue between SQL 2012 and SQL 2005. We have tried different users, etc, but nothing changes.

  • One cause of this is using management studio for a different version of SQL Server. ie, using SQL Server 2012 SSMS with a SQL Server 2008 R2 database. The option to generate snapshot is greyed out in SQL 2012 SSMS (in this scenario) but not in SQL 2008 R2 SSMS.
