Full Text Search Broken

  • Hi,

    I have had this problem for about six weeks since I migrated the database from a single box SQL Server 2000 to a Windows Server 2003 Cluster.  I have devoted hours to trying to fix it without success.  All the forum postings and Microsoft entries I can find are for single box installations and are dated 2003 and recommend installing SP3 (the SQL Server is already at SP3a and I am about to install SP4 to see if that fixes it!)  The problem is that the 'Population in progress' status on the Full Text Catalog is all I see, the process never finishes and the Catalog remains empty.  I have deleted and recreated the Catalog, stopped and started the server, tried to rebuild the Catalog, and everything else I can find recommended by MS and the forums and it still don't work!

    Any advice/assistance greatfully received as am about to spend money on a support call.

    Regards.

    Garrath.

  • someone recently had trouble with FT where a very vanilla statement no loner worked, but worked on other servers with same data/config.

    reinstalling all the patches did the trick;

    at a minimum, reinstall 3a, or go to sp4 if you are comfortable with it.

  • Thanks for the response.  I finally got the opportunity to apply SP4.  Being a Production System this had to await a "window of opportunity" (07:00 this morning).  And, just like magic, the Full Text Catalog started to fill up.  At 09:30 the Sharepoint Portal Server Site Search facility was working for the first time since our migration from a single server 'farm' to a medium server farm.

    Phew!
