Hi all,
What is the backup file format for a full-backup. When I give a filename for backing up using the backup wizard, should I give an extension like .bak etc. Because, I found that the backup which I make, has no extension.
Kindly clarify
Cheers

Hi,
Thanx for that. When does my backup cannot be restored?
Can i backup in one server and restore it in another one. If yes, what should be considered.
Thanx again

You can backup from one server to another. Depends a little on the SQL version.
For 7/2000, you can use the Enterprise Manager to restore the file, pick device and then find your file. You can restore to an existing database( overwrite) or a new database. Be sure you set the pack correctly. By default, the backup will contain the path on the original server. If this is a new server, the path may not be valid.
