Just as I get geared up to do SSAS in SQL 2k5, I find I need to be working with it on our 2000 server. GAH! And now I can't figure out if it's actually installed on our 2000 server.
Where do I look for the "Analysis Manager Tree Pane"? QA or EM?
Sorry for the stupid question, but I just can't figure out if it's not installed or if I'm just looking in all the wrong places. Everything I hit in BOL doesn't start at the basic "Go to Start - Programs..." etc. level. @=Pbbt.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Analysis Service is totally different product of Sql Server 2000. You have to install it from the CD.

Loner,
I'm trying to figure out if it's already installed, though. How do I do that?

Brandi,
I would check if the MSSQLServerOLAPService is installed on the machine. You could also check if a folder ...\Microsoft Analysis Service exists but the service is a better option.
When it comes to client tools in 2000 there a separate Analysis Manager tool. So no EM or QA.

Markus,
Thank you. That explains why I'm confused. I'm using the client tools on my desktop and should have gone straight to the source. @=)
Thanks again!

Well, the service is definitely installed on the server, but my client tools can't seem to access it. Do I need to install AS on my desktop to get the client tool that I can use to hook up to the server?

Hmm, I must admit I haven't installed AS 2000 for at least 5 years and can't remember exactly. But if you want the 2000 client tools like EM and QA you also have to start the server setup, so my guess would be that once you start the AS Setup, you might get a message that your OS is not supported and that only client tools will be available.

I just tried running through the installation of SQL Server 2000 Developer. I tried adding components to my existing install of the SQL Server. There was nothing there about Analysis Services at all. I checked the SQL Server components, the Management Tools components, the Client Connectivity (which had no "extra" components available). As far as the Install is concerned, I had everything except the Code Samples and some of the misc stuff (Headers & Libraries, MDAC, etc) installed already.
So how do I connect to an installed version of AS on a server from the client tools I have? EM, QA, Reporting Services, Client Network Utility, Books Online, Configure SQL Server XML Support in IIS, Profiler, Server Network Utility and Service Manager are the only items I see available in my programs list...

I am not sure the Analysis Service is on Developer version, I think it is only on the enterprise version. I remembered when I installed the enterprise version client tools from the SQL Server 2000 CD, there was a different icon on the menu to install Analysis Service.

Well, gosh darnit! Now I have to go begging up to Corporate (who has outlawed new SQL 2000 installs) and see if they will give me a copy of the 2000 Enterprise files...
GRRRRRRRR.
Thanks for the info, Loner. That explains a lot.
