Finding a New Job

  • I'm happy with where I work today.  I hope to ride it out until retirement, 8 to 10 years or so.  I decided after I lost my job over 6 years ago I would look for another IT job.  If I like it I would stick with it.  Otherwise I was thinking of going a different route, more of a 9 to 5 type of job, post office or work at a big box store.  The wear of IT work can get to you after 30+ years.

Lately we had new upper management come in.  We have started to get the questions of 'what does IT do?'.  So we have been asked to get a list of what projects we have done for the last six months.  And what we have on our backlogs.  I see it as more of 'justify your existence'.

So who knows, I may have to be back looking before I retire.  But as I did before, I would look for an IT job, but I would only take what I felt was right for me.  Otherwise it might be the end of my IT career.
