Filesystem and DTEXEC command

  • Hi all,

I am just playing around with importing packages and and am trying to understand if I need to import a dtsx package into the file system so I can execute a package or if I can just create a job to call DTEXEC.

If I can just run a DTEXEC command then what is the point of importing into the File System?

    Thanks

  • Hi again - can anyone answer my above post?

I have been looking at the server where the current job is running from and connected to Integration Services but I can't see any packages either under file system or MSDB. In fact I get an error when connecting to MSDB of:

The SQL Server specified in SSIS Service Configuration is not present or is not available.

    Thanks

  • Ok a little more - I can see the package jobs are all configured to run packages stored either in the package store or in the file system, but when I connect to SSIS I can't see them. Any ideas why?

I have found out the MSDB error is because the named instance is not mentioned in a xml file.
