Filestream or Filetable..what should be used?

  • I've been assigned with a project that includes converting the columns in the existing tables to use FileTable or Filestream. Basically, the requirement is to move blob fields to filetable storage if possible. Columns that matters are XSLT, XMLData, and Results from ExportRunResults table and there is a UserFiles table that has a column FileData that also needs to undergo the same process. I have attached the schema files for both and how the data looks like in the screenshots. I would like to know if it is feasible to convert the existing columns and tables to use Filetable or Filestream and instead of having the values stored inside the tables we can use either technologies to store files in the file system and pointers in the table. All these files could be .pdf, jpg etc.

Appreciate any help on this as I haven't found any useful article that would help achieve the task in my scenario.
