File Stream

  • Hi,

Using the file stream method. a file from the share path are taken, and it will be inserted in to the DB, this is an new feature for the replacement of traditional 'insert format' in sql for inserting the file.

If a file in the shared container any malware, if that was wrongly inserted into the db , What security measure has to be taken forward to avoid facing this type of strange scenario ?

    Thanks,

    Babu

  • you need to let your antivirus scan the file stream folder if any virus detected should quarantine the files , if you delete those file it will end up with the DB corruption.

  • You don't want your antivirus to read the filestream container. You should only scan the file when it is copied to another folder. There is no concern I'm aware of for insreting an infected file into the DB. This is just a binary stream and isn't rendered in any way by SQL Server.

Agreed!! If you are concerned about storing a virus, then most A/V products have an API that allows a .Net application to do a virus scan before the file is passed to SQL Server. If your A/V does not allow this, then it is time to get an A/V product that does.
